The Club operates across multiple sites, including a world class Training Centre, where the position of Senior Kitchen Gardener is based.  The Centre is the main location for the Club’s First Team training and coaching activities, and its impeccable presentation and dynamic mass planting are some of the many features that have led to it being recognised as one of the best training facilities in Europe.  As well as the Kitchen Garden, the Training Centre is home to a varied and flourishing range of herbaceous and shrub borders.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing our purpose-built Kitchen Garden with greenhouse and small orchard with the help of an Assistant Kitchen Gardener. They will be responsible for the production of organic vegetables and fruit to be used by the Training Centre chefs in the First Team and Academy restaurants.  They will be hard working, enthusiastic, have a strong focus on quality and be happy to work alongside the kitchen brigade.  The role would suit an experienced Kitchen Gardener who is self-motivated, confident, has the ability to come up with new ideas and work independently and within a team.

JOB PURPOSE

To grow organic fruit and vegetables to be used by the Training Centre chefs in our two restaurants, working closely with the Head Chef.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with the Training Centre Head Chef and Head Gardener to provide seasonal organic vegetables and fruit for the Training Centre First Team and Academy restaurants
  • Supervise and train the Assistant Kitchen Gardener
  • To maintain and manage all the growing areas in the Kitchen Garden and orchard to a high standard
  • Undergo general horticultural duties pertaining to the Kitchen Garden
  • Operate machinery in a safe and controlled manner
  • Be aware of, and work within, Health & Safety legislation, reporting all hazards and/or accidents

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous practical horticultural kitchen garden experience is essential
  • 5 years experience of organic kitchen gardening
  • Excellent knowledge of all aspects of organic fruit and vegetable production
  • PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates (desirable)
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation
  • Full UK Driving license
