An exciting opportunity to join an award winning, environmentally aware horticultural company employing over 200 staff on the south coast of England. Using established LEAN principles and innovative growing technology, our client are the UK's largest producer of indoor ornamental pot plants and supply over 8 million plants every year to major retailers including M&S, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose.

We are looking for an Assistant Growing Manager to work within our client's Technical & Growing department to help produce and develop consistently high-quality pot plants in their automated and technically advanced growing facilities. You will also provide technical assistance to the partner growers in the UK and overseas to achieve the same high crop standards as our own.

To do this, you will most likely have a degree in horticulture or similar and have several years' experience in commercial crop production, ideally in protected cropping systems. Familiarity with pest and disease identification, plant protection products, fertigation, biological control and irrigation systems will be expected.

The use and application of environmental computer systems would be highly advantageous, as would understanding of BOPP and LEAF audit principles. You would also be expected to be involved in the young plant ordering and production planning. However, full training and continual development will be provided for the right candidate. We are looking for a hands-on grower who demonstrates confidence when walking the crop, as well as a high level of IT proficiency to display and analyse data.

You will also have contact with customers' technical managers in order to represent our client well.

Basic salary £35,000 -£40,000, 24 days holiday; cash-back health scheme & perks, pension, car parking on site; free tea and coffee, cycle to work scheme, staff social events, EAP, and great training opportunities.

Working hours - Mon to Fri 7.30am to 4.30pm, with flexibility to cover seasonal peaks in workload, off-site meetings and out of hours emergency cover.
