About the role:

Horsham District Council has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Parks and Countryside Manager to lead a dedicated, hard-working and friendly team.

You will be responsible for a range of award-winning parks, important countryside sites, open spaces, cemeteries as well as outdoor sports and youth facilities. You will also be overseeing a variety of projects at our different sites including upgrades to play areas, implementation of a new skate park and the discovery hub at Warnham Nature Reserve. As well as leading a core team of staff, you will head-up a large committed group of volunteers across our different sites and substantial grounds maintenance and arboriculture contracts.

We are looking for a strong people-focused manager with adept emotional intelligence, communication, facilitation and problem-solving skills, as well as an agile, flexible and can-do approach. Good project management and change management skills are important as is the ability to be sensitive yet innovative in terms of income generation across our sites.

You will be someone who can demonstrate that they are able to work sensitively and collaboratively with other service areas within the council, Political Members as well as external stakeholders and community groups.

You will be joining a forward-thinking and ambitious council with a committed focus on environmental issues.  We are actively working to ensure the District’s natural environment is protected and enhanced, looking to reverse the decline in species and habitats as well as tackling and reducing the impacts of climate change.
