Duties & Responsibilities

We are looking for a technologist with experience and passion in horticulture / cut flowers to join our technical team on a permanent basis.

Technical & Commercial Management work closely with our supplier & grower base to ensure Waitrose & Partners customers have the best & most ethically sourced products from around the world.

As a Technologist at Waitrose & Partners you'll work alongside our Buying and Brand Development teams, as well as others in Commercial & Supply Chain, to deliver exciting and innovative products with uncompromisingly good quality.

Our Technologists manage, develop, coordinate and support the technical aspects of product retail and alternative new channel growth. Including as appropriate; suppliers, agronomy and agriculture, hospitality and branch improvements. They ensure product safety, quality, legality and integrity are maintained throughout the supply chain and within the branch operation

Job Requirements

Ensure consistent delivery of quality, safety and legal standards and Waitrose brand policy.

Support the monitoring and report on, routinely and by exception, the performance of suppliers and products, to ensure effective ongoing supply and delivery of quality, safety, legal, brand and policy requirements

Liaise closely with appropriate Buying and Brand teams to collaboratively manage product supply, ensure the delivery of product/supplier quality, safety, legal, policy, standards and commercial requirements

Maintain a current knowledge of relevant and emerging legal requirements relating to product safety and quality, and emerging technical and quality developments to strengthen delivery of technical goals.

Required essential experience skills and qualifications

- Experience working in Horticultre.
- Good communication and influencing skills
- Effective planning, organisation skills
- Self-starter, motivated, flexible and with a desire to drive continuous improvement
- HACCP training, Lead Assessor
- Specialist training e.g allergens, microbiology, pesticide management, specification management and product labelling legal requirements
- Additional specialist qualifications in specific category or product areas as required Experience:
- Foundation level technical management experience within the food or non food industry Supplier management and technical development
