This is a fantastic role for someone with a good depth of gardening experience seeking to develop their career in Gardening. The National Trust offers you some of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the UK to work in as well as one of the largest plant collections in Europe. Anglesey Abbey's Grade II* listed Gardens are truly exceptional, offering something in every season including a nationally significant collection of snowdrops, fantastic displays of Dahlias and our 21 year old Winter Garden.

In this role, you’ll work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings.

What it's like to work here

This Jacobean-style house with its colourful gardens and working watermill is one of our largest and busiest properties open 362 days a year to welcoming around 400,000 visitors across the seasons. What you'll be doing

You’ll love working outdoors and have a passion for horticulture. Your passion for visitor engagement will be equally as important as horticultural skill to succeed in this role. As well as supporting the management of our beautiful gardens we’d like you to help manage the team too. As the Senior Gardener in our team, we’d like you to lead by example, with exceptional gardening skills, and you’ll also understand how to manage the workload for part of this team, and deliver exceptional training to new staff and volunteers. This role reports into the Gardens and Outdoors Manager and forms part of the management structure of the Gardens Team.

Who we're looking for

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the following:

• Significant practical experience in horticulture supported by relevant qualifications

• Have supervisory experience from a similar role

• Excellent knowledge of plants

• Competent with the use and maintenance of garden machinery including chainsaws, tractors, hedge trimmers, pedestrian and ride on mowers

• Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and practice
