Sole Gardener - Live-Out
The Grounds
This private estate is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, in between Stow on the Wold and Cheltenham. The main house (17th century), and converted barn and out buildings are in Cotswold stone, all have been loving restored and refurbished in 2008. At the same time the gardens, some demarked by dry stoned walls, were re-designed and landscaped in keeping with the surrounding countryside. The estate boundaries are mainly ‘laid hedging’ . The 10 acre estate consists of tiered gardens, formal gardens, informal gardens of roses and lavender borders, a walled secret garden, meadow, vegetable garden, copse, plus ‘rural’ land with trees (old and new). There is also a natural spring and pond. The estate also has a swimming pool and tennis court.
The Role
We are looking for a sole full time experienced gardener to manage the estate grounds working on their own initiative so must be completely self-motivated. The successful applicant will be a complete self-starter, responsible for maintaining all areas and aspects of the gardens and acreage as well as the general upkeep of the hard landscaping. The monthly tasks will be planned bi-annually in advance for sign off and then the day to day running and delivery of the tasks would be managed solely by the gardener. The gardens are currently well maintained but there is ample scope for the new gardener to have huge input in making seasonal decisions. The successful candidate will want to take complete ownership of the planning and maintenance of the whole estate, occasionally partnering with the house manager on DIY like paving, pointing and repairs.
