Aintree Racecourse is home to The Randox Health Grand National, the world famous race which is the climax to a three-day Festival Meeting in April every year. In addition, this multi-functional racecourse hosts a range of events, including five other race fixtures, an Equestrian Centre, a 9 hole Golf Couse and Driving Range and is a leading conference and events venue in the north west of England.
We are seeking an experienced Gardener to join the grounds team, reporting to the Assistant Head Grounds Person.
Role summary
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who really wants to make a difference and make their mark in a role.
As a hands-on Gardener, you will maintain the estate to a high standard, and be passionate, enthused and knowledgeable about the planting opportunities available. This role includes a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop and enhance the estate, and contribute to the development of the racecourse presentation.
The successful person will take ownership of planted areas and schemes, to ensure the estate is presented to the highest standard. This includes planting and maintenance of trees, hedges, shrubs, herbaceous plants and mowing of lawns as well as looking after hard and soft landscaping, undertaking general maintenance such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing and weeding.
To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below;
- relevant gardener/horticulturalist skills and qualifications
- practical experience of garden/horticultural management or equivalent
- RHS Level 2 or equivalent
- strong knowledge of plants
- compete and trained in machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers
- basic computer literacy
- a valid full driving licence
Hours: 40 hours, any 5 days from 7, by arrangement with your manager
