A career advancement opportunity has arisen for a gardener to join a small team on a private estate in Marten, near Marlborough in Wiltshire.  The 50-acres include parkland and a two-acre garden with a wide variety of plants and areas of horticultural interest.

The existing garden team consists of a Head Gardener, an Assistant Head Gardener, an Under Gardener and a Maintenance Gardener/Grounds person.  An additional gardener is required to assist in the overall maintenance and development of the garden on a full-time permanent basis.

The garden consists of various beds and borders, a rose garden, kitchen garden, a cut flower area and areas of manicured and natural lawn as well as three glasshouses.  The two-acre garden is surrounded by paddocks and woodland, extending to 50-acres in total.  The property also plays host to small animals such as chickens and ducks which are managed by the garden team.  Applicants should therefore be willing to assist with some non-horticultural aspects of the job when required.

The role will involve general garden maintenance; hedge cutting, mowing, weeding, dead heading, pruning etc. as well as working with roses, the beds/borders, the cutting flower garden and within the kitchen garden.  Applicants should have a good level of experience in general garden maintenance, and a willingness to improve their general horticultural knowledge where necessary.  The suitable candidate will be confident and willing to work within a small friendly team but should also be happy to work autonomously in certain areas of the garden where required. A spray certificate would be beneficial but is not essential for the role initially.  Applicants with experience of driving tractors with hedge cutter attachments are encouraged to apply.

This is a genuine opportunity for an experienced gardener to utilise their existing skills, or for a maintenance gardener to improve their horticultural knowledge with a talented team and under an excellent Head Gardener, on a beautiful and immaculately managed private estate.  Candidates will need to hold a full UK driving licence and be commutable to Marten, Wiltshire.
