About the role:

This is a rare opportunity to be part of an award-winning team working across the City of York. As a gardener in our Landscaping Team you will deliver horticultural services across a range of locations. You will work efficiently to the highest possible standards under the direction of the Chargehand for your area or the Homestead Park Senior Gardener. As well as ongoing seasonal maintenance of our green spaces you will also be involved in renovation and development projects as we look to refresh our landscaped areas

This hands-on role is about providing great outdoor spaces for our residents, tenants and the wider community to enjoy. The role will be varied and require an adaptable and flexible approach as the team works with new work schedules and management plans to provide a more structured, better value and more transparent service for the residents.

About you:

Coming to us with solid practical experience of horticulture and high-quality grounds maintenance you will possess a horticultural qualification to a minimum of NVQ Level 3/RHS 2 and/or proven equivalent professional experience. You will also have good botanical knowledge and experience of working with a wide variety of horticultural equipment. Your ability to problem solve, prioritise and communicate to a wide range of different people will also stand you in good stead. You will need a full UK driving licence, hold a PA1 and PA6 licence and understand health and safety and management of risk associated with a horticultural environment.

If you share our passion to work to high standards and improve the lives of the people living in our communities then we would love to hear from you.

Company

The Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) is a registered housing association and care provider in Yorkshire and the North East of England. We work alongside the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) to inspire social change.

We were established more than 110 years ago by Joseph Rowntree to provide housing in communities. We work alongside  JRF to understand the root causes of social problems.

Our mission is to build and develop strong empowered communities without poverty or isolation.  We believe everyone should have a decent home in a good place, and living standards and prospects.

We manage approximately 2,620 homes, half of which are located in the village of New Earswick, York. The rest are spread across the North East of England, including York, Scarborough, Beverley, Leeds and Hartlepool.

Our homes include apartments, houses, and bungalows. We provide homes for single people, couples, families, and older people. Some of our homes have been adapted to support people living with disabilities. We can also provide extra care and support if needed.

We act as a landlord to residents who rent our homes. We also invest and support communities to enhance the lives of people living there.

As well as this, we also offer shared ownership schemes which help people to buy their own homes who otherwise may be unable to afford to.
