Created in March 2017, The Royal Parks is a charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London. Millions of Londoners and tourists visit our beautiful sites, which offer unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and healthy living in the heart of the capital. 

We look after eight of London’s largest open spaces; Hyde Park, The Green, Richmond, Greenwich, St James’s, Bushy and The Regent’s Parks, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner. 

We are currently looking for a Park Manager to join us and take ownership of the strategic and day-to-day operational management of Bushy Park and The Longford River.

In this important role, you will act as the guardian of Bushy Park, which is renowned for its mix of waterways, gardens, grassland and roaming herds of red and fallow deer. Lying north of Hampton Court Palace, the history of the park is inextricably linked to the palace and is home to the famous Diana Fountain. 

The Role

As the Park Manager, you will oversee Bushy Park and The Longford River and ensure the park maintains its SSSI designation. 

Ensuring the park is presented to the highest standards, you will manage contractors, covering landscape maintenance, arboriculture, works and concessionaires. 

Additionally, you will: 

- Lead the delivery of park events at a senior operational level
- Take responsibility for deer management and wildlife conservation activities
- Ensure that green housekeeping activities are completed in-line with ISO 14001 principles
- Effectively manage resources in-line with the procurement strategy
- Contribute to the development of our corporate and business unit plans 

About You 

To join us as a Park Manager, you will need: 

- Significant experience of working in the public arena and with the press and media 
- Knowledge and significant experience of contract management, including writing and reviewing specifications 
- Experience of dealing with enquiries from stakeholders/external organisations and resolving associated issues 
- Strong management and supervisory skills, including the ability to manage the performance and delivery of staff and volunteers 
- Good financial management and control skills, including the ability to plan within budgets 
- The ability to represent The Royal Parks at a senior level 

Other organisations may call this role Park Operations Manager, Contracts Manager, Contract Manager, Park Supervisor, Park Events Manager, Park Operations & Events Manager or Operations Manager. 

This is a full time role, working 36 hours per week. You will be required to participate in an on-call rota, generally on a 1 in 4 week basis. Flexibility regarding working hours will be required, particularly when major events are taking place in the park.
