St James’s Park, London (with travel to all London parks)

Created in March 2017, The Royal Parks is a charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London. Millions of Londoners and tourists visit our beautiful sites, which offer unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and healthy living in the heart of the capital. 

We look after eight of London’s largest open spaces; Hyde Park, The Green, Richmond, Greenwich, St James’s, Bushy and The Regent’s Parks, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner. 

We are now seeking an Assistant Park Manager to join us on a full time basis. This role may be based in any of the Royal Parks but will initially be based in St James’s Park.

The Role 

As an Assistant Park Manager, you will oversee a range of functions throughout St James’s Park. 

You will monitor the operation of contracts and undertake the selection and procurement of horticultural items to ensure that St James’s Park continues to be one of London’s most beautiful spaces. 

Your role will also involve: 

- Designing and implementing planting schemes 
- Developing and implementing biodiversity and sustainability initiatives 
- Assisting with the management of park events, and filming 
- Managing individual budgets 
- Liaising with key stakeholders and consultants 
- Managing other London parks 

About You 

To be considered as an Assistant Park Manager, you will need: 

- A minimum of three years’ park or landscape management experience 
- Experience of contract management, including writing and reviewing specifications, ordering and supervising work, and handling general contract issues 
- A relevant horticultural qualification, ideally at degree level, e.g. a BSc in Horticulture, Kew Diploma, M.Hort RHS or an HND in Horticulture (a lower level qualification backed by at least five years’ relevant experience may be considered) 
- A thorough knowledge of Health and Safety principles, roles and responsibilities 
- A flexible approach and the ability to work varied hours in line with business requirements 

Although not essential, a membership of an appropriate professional institute such as the Chartered Institute of Horticulture would be beneficial to your application. Experience of preparing information for external audits, such as ISO14001 would also be an advantage. 

Other organisations may call this role, Assistant Landscape Manager, Assistant Contracts Manager, Senior Horticulturalist, Landscape Supervisor, Park Supervisor, Senior Park Officer or Senior Landscape Officer.
