Summary of Role
To lead and execute the cultivation of food, crops and plants from the extensive grounds with the aim to produce 80% of the food we serve in our restaurants,
provide flowers for use within the building and to create interesting and varied external spaces for our clients. This role will allow for both traditional and new methods of horticulture, and will allow for an artistic, imaginative and experimental method of horticulture.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- To develop a continually evolving strategy for different phases of the business needs, ensuring the main pillars of the business are central to all key decisions, methods and actions.
- To undertake all aspects of husbandry and production including the preparation, growing and harvesting of crops, food and flowers.
- To manage the look and feel of the grounds, and customer areas, with an open policy for our customers to be able to assist in the harvesting of food.
- To provide spaces of interest and adventure in our grounds for both adults and children alike.
- Manage pest, disease and weed control programmes, in line with health and safety standards
- Plan and develop grounds and glasshouse produce in line with seasonal needs of the business, also developing storage solutions of crops.
- Take responsibility of the delivery of crops, flowers and food to the necessary departments in line with need.
- Analyse yields, operational costs and financial return of horticultural production.
- Identify technical and growing problems, investigating the causes and formulating solutions
- Plan and organise trials to assess their effectiveness
- Communicate effectively to line managers, departments and fellow team members
- Organize presentations, demonstrations and blogs to our clients and fellow team members
- Train, instruct and supervise other ground team members.
- Perform basic administration tasks
- Provide Property and General Manager with strategic input and general transformation of the asset and culture.
- Any other reasonable requests
- A full driving license
