Job Details

A great opportunity has arisen for a Garden Team Leader to join an established company located to the west of Etchingham, Kent.  The company has been in business for over 30 years - a testament to their continued provision of quality service in the gardening and landscape industry.

The company now requires a Garden Team Leader to work alongside and supervise one existing gardener on a full-time basis.  The Team Leader will manage their own gardens and on occasion, will deputise on the gardens of their Team Leader colleagues.  The ideal candidate will hold a recognised horticultural qualification and/or considerable experience, will be competent with a range of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment and will be used to working within a team and on their own initiative.  Applicants for this role must have excellent plant identification skills and garden management experience, ideally on horticulturally diverse private estates.

The role will predominantly involve supervising one assistant gardener and tending to numerous, primarily domestic gardens on a scheduled, rotational basis.  The role will also include the maintenance and ongoing development of a 5-acre Sussex garden, designed by Jo Gibbons.  A driving licence is essential for this role.  You will be required to assist with various one-off projects of a similar nature on a full-time basis during the winter months, which will ensure your continued year-round employment and offer an opportunity to add to your existing skill set.

Applicants will need to be competent with a range of garden machinery (and basic maintenance thereof) as you will be expected to undertake duties including hedge cutting, lawn maintenance, pruning, planting, bed/border maintenance, and be willing to carry out a range of other gardening tasks as they arise.  Competence with back-pack sprayers and a spray ticket (PA1/PA6) is desired.

Applicants must be conscientious and well presented as interaction with property owners on site will be necessary.  Candidates will be diplomatic and have a positive in approach to the management of gardeners in training, be flexible in their approach to work, physically fit and have a ‘can-do’ attitude.  Uniforms are provided.  A full UK driving licence is essential, as is your own car for travel to and from the rural yard.  The business shuts down between Christmas and New Year.
