The estate has a strong history, dating back to the 15th century and the gardens are bustling with a wealth of unusual plants, trees and shrubs. Under the owners’ guidance, the estate is undergoing an exciting transformation and so it will be the successful candidates’ job to be the Head Gardener and work alongside the Estate Manager and being part of an established estate team to enhance and develop the gardens; being a key component in building and creating one of England’s finest medieval estates.

The gardens comprise of a Water Garden, a croquet lawn, herbaceous borders, box and mixed topiary, a kitchen garden, climbing roses and wisteria, arboretum and several ponds, including an ancient moat. The wider estate comprises wide sweeping farmland, with plantings of native trees and hedgerows throughout, including a large woodland and stew pond with swathes of spring bulbs planted throughout.

The estate is also a working livestock and arable farm with one of the best private shoots in the area. The property is a private home to the owners and is not open to the public.

The candidate will be expected to have a relevant qualification in Horticulture with a good level of knowledge and expertise, in particular in plant identification and lawn care. Some experience in garden design would be an additional plus. Candidates would have their PA1/6 and also have experience in using machinery such as ride on mowers, tractors, hedge cutters and so on. A full UK driving Licience is a must.

Typical duties would include, bed preparation, planting, propagating, weeding, feeding and pruning across all garden areas. Maintaining and harvesting produce from the newly developed kitchen garden, mowing and maintaining lawns.

A salary depending on experience, a two bedroom cottage on site and pension are available.
