We are currently seeking applications for three Horticulture & Marketing Officers within SASA’s Horticulture and Marketing Unit (HMU) to be based in Glasgow and Edinburgh. These are permanent and pensionable appointments and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

SASA, a Division of the Agriculture and Rural Economy Directorate, is responsible for providing a range of services in support of arable agriculture, horticulture, food, the environment and the wider rural economy. HMU is a branch within SASA and consists of 12 specialist inspectors who undertake a wide range of inspection and enforcement activities across Scotland in relation to plant health and rules relating to the marketing of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Qualifications Required

1.  A qualification in Horticulture or Agriculture, or equivalent relevant experience.

2.  A full valid driving licence that enables the post holder to drive in the UK is required. However the Scottish Government will consider proposals put forward by applicants to carry out the duties by any other means.

Essential Criteria

1. Understanding of the horticultural sector and/or the trade in plants, plant products and fresh produce.

2. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively to both colleagues and a wide range of contacts.

3. Self-motivated, working within a team or on own initiative with minimal supervision, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.

4. Demonstrate sound judgement and reliability under pressure, and accepting responsibility for subsequent outcomes.
