Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC6736

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a hands-on sole gardener with a positive disposition to manage the beautiful gardens of a private estate in North Surrey.

The private estate is surrounded by 13 acres of land which includes a 9-acre modern garden designed by a renowned contemporary landscape and garden designer. The garden contains formal lawns with meadow grass sections and grass herbaceous borders. Set out geometrically, the garden contains extensive hedging’s of Yew, birch and box with a river to one side of the garden and a woodland / parkland on the other.

The sole gardener will be responsible for the general maintenance and any further developments of the garden to a high horticultural standard. Due to the geometric shape of the garden, clipping and pruning of the hedges and sharp grass edges is important to maintain the structure. The successful applicant will have a full understanding of the importance of a structured feeding and treatment schedules and will implement this for all the plants in the garden.

Applicants will ideally hold a level 3 horticultural qualification and have excellent plant knowledge and horticultural skills. They will have the enthusiasm and passion to maintain the gardens to the highest level and continue to develop new areas in line with the garden theme. He / She will have excellent communication, be self-motivated and are able to work on their own initiative.  

New garden equipment and machinery will be available for the sole gardener’s use. The ability to operate and maintain a range of garden machinery and good craft skills are also desirable for the role. A full driving licence is essential, and a chainsaw certificate would be an advantage.

SALARY:        £30,000 – £35,000 depending on experience
