Chew Valley Trees are looking for a part-time Horticultural Advisor to join the nursery office team, helping customers choose the right trees for their space and ensuring the sales process goes smoothly. Regular working days for this role will be Fridays and Saturdays, plus holiday cover.

Main duties will include:

  • welcoming customers to the nursery and helping them find their way around
  • advising on suitable trees and shrubs
  • processing sales and arranging deliveries
  • helping customers load purchases into vehicles
  • answering phone and online queries

Previous experience in horticulture is preferable, or a strong interest in plants and gardening. You will also need to be computer literate to use our stock and sales system. The ideal candidate might be someone with RHS training or who has worked as a gardener or in garden design, looking for a part-time, office-based role. An enthusiastic and helpful attitude is essential.

Full training on the sales system will be given, plus guidance on the features of the nursery stock (e.g. suitability for small gardens, best autumn colour, copes with wind etc). You will be expected to take an active role in learning about the trees and shrubs within the nursery, in order to pass on your wisdom to our customers!

For the right person, this is an opportunity to work with specialist growers, learning about the nursery business and the trees and shrubs we grow. Our team includes experts who will be pleased to pass on their knowledge to those with a desire to learn.

We are situated in the delightful Chew Valley, close to Bristol. Your own transport will be needed to get to the nursery.

Holiday cover to primarily take place in school holidays, therefore flexibility in these times is required. The nursery is not open on Saturdays in July and August, but the successful candidate will ideally be able to work on weekdays in these months.

Working hours: 8am - 5pm, Fridays and Saturdays (from September to June) and Fridays plus holiday cover (July - August), in addition to holiday cover as required at other times. With 28 days paid holiday (including Bank Holidays) pro rata.
