A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic gardener to lead a small team of gardeners on a beautiful private estate in Cheshire.

The impressive period property is framed by an historic “arts and crafts” garden, made up of adjoining rooms. The private estate encompasses around fifty acres of which six are gardens maintained to a high standard.

The gardens are opened once a year under the National Garden Scheme, and as testament to their popularity are one of the regions highest turnout gardens.

The new role will include liaising with the property owner regards the formal garden and wider estate.

The varied site includes;

  • Historic arts and crafts formal “rooms” with topiary 
  • Formal lawns
  • Lake and ponds
  • Historic quarry garden
  • Parterre
  • Sunken garden
  • Walled pottager and glasshouse
  • Cottage garden with bee hives
  • Nuttery
  • Woodland walks
  • Paddocks
  • Far reaching views

The property owners are keen to employ a head gardener who will work with them as part of a team to continue to develop the gardens, alongside two other gardeners.

Applications are sought from experienced and knowledgeable private estate head gardeners who will have assumed a high level of estate management and ornamental horticulture.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Positive can do attitude
  • Great communication skills
  • Highly level of organisation
  • Competent with machine maintenance and schedules
  • Clean driving licence
  • RHS level 2 or equivalent
  • Spray and chainsaw  licences (desirable)

 

Fully renovated two bed cottage may be available.
