Arboricultural Officer

Ref: 004163

Salary: £31,369 to £41,494 p.a.

37 hours per week

Swindon has grown from its origins as a railway town to become a diverse urban area at the forefront of engineering, transport and town expansion. It benefits from natural assets, the North Wessex Downs AONB, SSSI’s, country parks and growing Green Infrastructure networks.

To meet the demands of a growing town, we seek a qualified Arboricultural Officer (Degree/HNC preferred) with a track record of experience in a planning environment. The successful candidate will join a team delivering projects, supporting planning policy and development control. This role will principally involve the management of the borough’s TPO and Conservation Area planning processes and giving expert arboricultural advice for planning applications.

There is a need to work with internal departments in council development proposals, Parishes, external clients and the public on tree and hedgerow issues. Digital mapping, updating records and advancement for public access are key to the role and the council’s ambitions

A good communicator, self- motivated, technically competent with skills in completing tree condition surveys to British Standards, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a growth environment with a commitment to preserving and expanding our tree cover. This is a key post in the planning process and requires a strong collaborator to liaise with developers and the public. Competent in IT packages that include GIS mapping and able to manage a busy workload, there will be further opportunity to support the team’s projects in the creation of new woodland and urban tree planting.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

For informal enquiries please contact Russell Weymouth on 07769 281784 or rweymouth@swindon.gov.uk
