About the role 

This role is key to the management of Cornwall Council’s trees, and the management of their ‘Tree Risk’ and sits within CORMAC’s ‘Invasive Plants & Arboricultural Service’. Officers undertake inspections adjacent the managed highway network and upon Cornwall Council owned land. Our team record inventory data, assess tree risk, specify and instruct remedial works.

We respond to the public, and liaise with property managers and highway officers regarding trees and recommended works. We advise CORMAC and Cornwall Council officers in respect of current best practice, promoting good arboricultural management. We work alongside colleagues managing Cornwall Council’s open spaces, and with CORMAC’s Landscaping and Tree Surgery Team.

In addition we undertake inspections and provide consultancy services for, private landowners and developers. We are seeking to develop this aspect of the business.  

We will undertake an enhanced criminal records bureau (DBS) check on the successful applicant.

About you 

You shall be a self-motivated individual, seeking to join a dynamic and developing service. Having worked as a climbing arborist and/or as a surveyor; you shall be competent in assessing tree condition, tree risk and specifying work. You shall have an understanding of current working methods and of the associated health, safety and environmental considerations.

You must have achieved the Level 4 Technicians Certificate in Arboriculture (or equivalent) or shall be willing to undertake a qualification to this level. You must be a licensed user of Quantified Tree Risk Assessment or shall be willing to undertake training in this system. You must have achieved LANTRA accreditation in Professional Tree Inspection.
