Our client is a leading garden centre group who are seeking a short term QC to cover the busy garden centre season in their Milton Keynes based distribution hub.

Purpose of the Job:

Responsible for undertaking visual inspection of the plants that come in on trolleys from their suppliers across the country. The position is essential to our clients so they can ensure all plants are received at the stores in a fresh and quality condition, with the correct barcodes and labelling attached.

Principal Accountabilities:

Responsible for identifying quality issues and communicating these effectively to the Quality Control Manager.
Your main activities will be as follows; check trailer temperature on arrival at site; ensure trolleys are off loaded and placed in relevant dispatch area; check 5-10% of each supplier delivery; check overall plant quality; check plants are bar-coded and labelled; check plants are consistent with batch; check plants are free from damage, physical defects, dead or dying, check for diseases and pests. To check composts are moist, pots are clean and the overall condition of the plants and packaging are 1st class. You will also be required to complete all related logs and reports.
Recording any issues with the quality of stock.

Person Specification:

The ideal candidate will have relevant experience within a horticultural environment and training within this discipline.
Must be able to demonstrate a wide range of knowledge of bedding plants, nursery stock and house plants.
Able to work on own initiative, without direct supervision.
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate in an open and honest manner.
Be approachable, open, fair, consistent, diplomatic and assertive.
Must have the commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility to work various shift patterns which are able to respond to seasonal customer demand. This will have a 1.30 pm to 9.30 pm shift pattern.
Must be physically fit and able to move trolleys from the lorries. There can be up to 25 deliveries per day.

Salary:

£20,000 pro rata - 6 months contract.
