JOB DETAILS:  Assistant Gardener (Live out)

An attractive opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Gardener to join a stunning private estate located within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The position would suit an enthusiastic, up and coming gardener with excellent attention to detail, time management and someone who takes pride in there work.

The large estate comprises of two properties in addition to the main house, each of which encompass between 50 and 100 acres of paddocks which play host to approximately 100 horses in total.  The garden to the main house is currently undergoing transformation at the hand of a commissioned designer and head gardener, so the successful candidate will be required to help implement the final scheme. The two additional properties comprise predominantly of managed lawns, hedges and herbaceous/mixed borders.  The new Assistant Gardener will be responsible for hands-on management of the gardens at the main house as well as the two cottages.  Basic garden maintenance of a fourth property may be required at times.

Applicants must be well-versed in the maintenance of private estate gardens from a skilled, gardener perspective. A variety of skills will be required from a horticultural perspective with regard to the main house predominantly, such as kitchen gardening, plant propagation/glasshouse work, cut flowers, fruit tree pruning, lawn care and general garden maintenance.  Knowledge of plant pest and disease management would be an advantage, as would experience with tractors and chainsaws.  The kitchen garden will initially require restoration and will be used once again to grow produce for the main house and private visitors associated with the estate.    

Candidates must be willing to learn and take instruction form the head gardener with each of the above aspects.  A driving licence is essential as the properties are set within a three mile radius of the main house.  This is a Gardener role and as such, applicants must be physically fit and capable of working in this physical role .
