Part Time Skilled Gardener - Live Out - EC6374

An attractive part-time opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener on a beautiful private estate near Chipping Norton, on a 2-day/week basis.  This opportunity is open to self-employed gardeners as well as those wishing to be employed on a part-time basis.

This 8-acre family estate gives a natural and typical English country garden feel, though it is not manicured, and it is the intention of the owner for it to remain so.  The garden offers areas of wild grass including bankings, an orchard, high yew hedges, ornamental and herbaceous beds/borders, with bulbs; the planting of which is a main focus in autumn.  The gardens also comprise expansive lawns, a pool, tennis court, and a walled garden with a small kitchen garden, though the latter is not a priority for the successful applicant.  The gardens form part of a wider estate, with paddocks and mature trees surrounding the property, all of which are managed by external contractors.  Applicants should be well-versed in the management of roses, wisteria and fruit trees in addition to the above areas.

The property owner resides at the home on a full-time basis and has a genuine passion for the gardens.  General maintenance and basic garden duties are undertaken by an existing employee, though there is now a need for a Skilled Gardener to play a key role from a horticultural perspective.

Candidates will ideally hold an academic horticultural qualification at level 2 or above, with at least five years’ practical experience in private estate gardens.  Applicants should have excellent horticultural knowledge, competency in the operation of general garden machinery, excellent attention to detail and a positive attitude are essential requirements.  It would be preferable for applicants to hold spray certificates (PA1/PA6), though this is not necessarily essential. 

This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to take on two days per week on a beautiful private estate, and to work for friendly clients who have a genuine interest in their garden.

SALARY:        Circa £25/hour DOE
