A full time Senior Gardener is required for a stunning Country House set in the Ribble Valley area of Lancashire. The candidate must be passionate, well motivated and have a proven track record working on a Private Estate Setting. The successful candidate will be working underneath the Estate Manager and Head Gardener who are more than happy to share their own knowledge with others. This is a rare opportunity to join a vibrant, beautiful and fast moving modern estate garden. The Estate consists of Large Formal Lawns, Orangery, Fruit trees, Walled Garden, Kitchen Garden and Woodland areas. The Head Gardener is keen to let the individual have some freedom in relation to designing planting schemes, coming up with new ideas and bringing something to the table. The Successful Candidate will be enthusiastic about plants and looking to expand their knowledge and skills. You must be equally happy working alone or as part of a team.   

The Role will include interaction with other Employees, Guests and the most importantly the Clients. Therefore the candidate must be friendly and professional at all times. 

The Clients are keen to have a positive environment for all estate staff, so you need to be a team player and always be willing to 'roll up your sleeves' and get stuck in. 

The duties, but not limited to are

  • Tending to the formal Lawns, Mowing, strimming, edging, renovations etc.  
  • Border maintenance, including pest and disease management, pruning and border cultivation. 
  • Working in the Glass houses, propagation and working in the Kitchen Garden. 
  • Supporting other members of the team, including working alongside the Estate Manager and Head Gardener. The Estate manager has a very 'hands on' involvement with the garden and is very passionate about his plants and trees. 

Working hours Monday-Friday 8.00-4.30,

40 hours per week

Qualifications and skills

Application are welcome from experienced gardeners who have good all round skills and horticultural knowledge with kitchen and walled garden experience. You will need to provide references from at least 2 previous employers and provide evidence of your horticultural qualifications are a must (at least RHS level 2/3). 

It is also essential that the applicant holds the relevant PA1 and PA6 chemical Spraying. Chainsaw license is preferred but not essential. Any candidate's who do not possess these qualification's training can be sourced for the right individual.  The successful candidate will need to have a good eye for detail and be physically fit to carry out duties, reliable, honest and trustworthy. Applicants must have a valid DBS certificate or be willing to have one done. 

 

Even though this is a Live out position, Applicants are welcome from further afield. The estate has connections to landlords and although a live in package is not included, sourcing the Correct Accommodation would not be to difficult.
