An established and experienced Head Gardener is required in West Yorkshire
The Head Gardener will have direct responsibility for the day to day management of the gardens, as well as participating on its ongoing development. The garden comprises of formal terraces, open lawn areas, walled gardens, kitchen garden and parkland. All set in a south facing five acre area.
The day to day duties include weeding, grass cutting, trimming, maintenance of pathways and car park areas, planting, irrigation, propagation, landscaping and design. Suitable candidates must be competent with the operation and maintenance of garden machinery and need to adhere to excellent health and safety standards at all times.
The successful candidate will be required to work and manage a team of two, plus contractors when required. They will have proven management ability to include excellent communication skills, problem solving and decision making.
A recognised qualification in horticulture and relevant experience in a similar position at a private estate of at least five years is essential. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates, chainsaw qualifications and a full clean driving license is required.
A person with genuine enthusiasm, a keen eye for detail and a willingness to lead from the front and work calmly under pressure would enjoy this unique opportunity.
This is a full time permanent position. Live-in accommodation is available, comprising of a three bedroom cottage with garage situated on the estate.
