Head Gardener

A hands on Head Gardener is wanted for a private North Cotswolds estate.

Compromising of 55 acres, the grounds include ornamental borders, a kitchen garden and orchard, streams and renovated ponds, woodlands, a wildflower meadow, extensive lawns and pasture.  Since acquiring the estate, the current owners have worked with a world-class garden designer to improve the landscape and to develop the productive gardens.  On the completion of the building works planned for 2019-2020, the ornamental gardens will be completely renovated and the Head Gardener will have a major role in the development and implementation of these plans. 

Managing one other full time gardener, you would be responsible for maintaining the gardens to the highest standard and also fulfilling other minor estate duties, such as small maintenance jobs and some ad-hoc animal care.  

The candidate must have relevant qualifications including NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, PA1 and PA6, and preferably CS30 and CS31 certificates.  Good knowledge of and experience with strimmers, hedge cutters, chainsaws, mowers and tractors is useful.  For the right candidate, training would be provided if necessary.

This is a great role for a relatively new or first time Head Gardener who has bags of enthusiasm, a hunger to learn and who wants the challenge of creating new gardens.  

Currently the role is live out and given rural location, a driving licence is recommended.
