Do you want to work in an organisation that delivers urban tree planting and educational growing spaces in schools across the UK?

Trees for Cities is a national charity that provides outdoor learning spaces through its Edible Playground programme for schools across the UK. We are aiming to deliver 28 edible playgrounds in 2018/19 and we have ambitions to increase this number substantially by 2020.

We are currently looking for a new Senior Landscape Manager who will play a pivotal role in the Trees for Cities project delivery team.

Liaising between the design and delivery teams, the Senior Landscape Manager will undertake project management, planning and build of TfC’s Edible Playground programme and other landscaping projects, in London and nationwide. He or she will be an experienced, creative, skilled and confident construction professional able to interpret and understand contractual information, specifications and design detail provided by our in-house design team. He/she will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered to the highest and safest standards, within budget and programme deadlines.

This is an exciting role where the Senior Landscape Manager will work closely with the Trees for Cities’ design team to develop innovative, sustainable and effective growing spaces for schools. As our Senior Landscape Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring projects remain replicable and robust, using woodworking and other specialist skills, experience and commercial acumen to ensure an efficient and sustainable end product.

To be successful in the role you will be capable of efficiently coordinating not only a multiple number of replicable Edible Playgrounds, but also a range of one off and bespoke landscape projects.

Trees for Cities is an ambitious, far-reaching organisation.
Trees for Cities has developed and led its Edible Playground programme across the UK, bringing food growing to schools, by developing a replicable unit approach to delivery. Edible Playgrounds transform school grounds into vibrant outdoor teaching gardens inspiring learning and getting children excited about growing and eating healthy food. Our standard edible playgrounds consist of raised oak planting beds, seating, outdoor classroom facilities, greenhouses and composting facilities, as well as other one off bespoke requirements. We aim to improve health and wellbeing, access to nature, and provide a fun outdoor learning environment that supports cross-curriculum teaching.

We are the only charity that focuses on planting urban trees in cities worldwide and this year we plan to plant our millionth urban tree.
Trees for Cities is a game-changing, ambitious organisation that sets high standards for workmanship and sustainability of our projects and programmes.

The sort of person we’re looking for.

  • An organised individual and effective communicator you will have excellent people-management skills.
  • You will be a skilled and experienced (5 years+ in sector) landscape construction professional who has demonstrable experience in delivering a range of landscaping projects, with particular focus on woodwork
  • You will be a team leader who can effectively make decisions and communicate clearly in a fast moving programme, delivering and organising installation of multiple edible playgrounds and other landscape projects.
  • You will continually review and improve construction processes, embedding first rate systems in your team.
  • The health, safety and welfare of all workers including permanent staff, volunteers and temporary workers will be of utmost importance and you will ensure they are given suitable support and care when under your supervision.
  • You will be a calm and organised project manager who can confidently produce cost estimates, project programmes and maintain accurate and up to date financial records.
  • Confident self-starter able to represent the charity at meetings.
  • Interest in the urban environment and an enthusiasm for urban trees.
