Hours: Part-time, Average 18.5 hrs per week (flexible and seasonal, potentially annualised hours).  Weekend and school holiday working will be required

Contract: Fixed Term Contract to end of November 2021

Location: Brockhole on Windermere, the Lake District Visitor Centre

Salary: Grade I, £19,897 - £23,006 – pro rata for part time working

Brockhole is the Lake District National Park Visitor Centre. Set on the shores of Windermere, the site includes the beautiful Gibson designed Arts and Crafts Brockhole House and 30 acres of stunning Thomas Mawson listed gardens. The site is undergoing some significant developments and we have secured Heritage Lottery Funding for the restoration of our kitchen garden.

We are looking for a strong team player to join our team focussing on creating and delivering a learning and engagement programme around the restored kitchen garden, the restoration project, the planting and produce, the garden’s history and its significance within the site and the wider historical garden landscape. Your role will be to coordinate, lead and deliver the learning and engagement elements of the Kitchen Garden Restoration Project. You will identify and work closely with key external communities and partners; facilitating, coordinating and delivering a programme of activities that meet the vision and aims of the project.

The engagement and learning programme will need to deliver an exceptional programme to varied audiences and participants, ranging from school parties, to general visitors, to economically and socially disadvantaged community groups. 

The Lake District is a World Heritage Site and this is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to the development of this unique cultural heritage site. At the heart of the project are the stories of the Gaddum family, who commissioned the garden, and the vision of Thomas Mawson, the garden designer. The project will explore and restore the garden and engage people in a learning journey that will focus on these heritage stories.

This role will include some weekend and school holiday working and will be offered on an annualised hours basis, working to an average of 18.5hrs a week. We foresee that there will be some times of year when your time input will need to be greater than others, to fit with the gardening year, visitor numbers and scheduled activity programme, so you will be working more hours in the summer months than in the winter.
