Head Gardener

How would you like to spend your working day surrounded by beautiful and spacious countryside, working in a peaceful and friendly setting, putting your gardening talents and experience to full use, as Cranleigh Schools’ new Head Gardener?

Set in a beautiful rural location in 280 acres of Surrey countryside, the new Head Gardener will join an established cheerful busy team who maintain the Schools’ varied gardens and grounds.

Reporting to the Grounds Manager, you will be a great communicator with the ability to manage, develop and organise the gardening team, including day to day monitoring of their performance.  The role includes planning and delivery of seasonal and general maintenance of the gardens/amenity areas, proactively identifying areas that can be improved.  The successful candidate will have the ability to plan and programme improvements, including design, implementation and ongoing maintenance.

You will have an excellent horticultural knowledge and a passion for gardens and plants. Ideally you will possess formal horticultural qualifications, but not necessarily essential if a proven record of extensive relevant experience can be demonstrated.  You will be required to have spraying certificates PA1/PA6 together with a full clean driving licence.

This is an exciting position for an enthusiastic, strongly motivated person, wishing to be an integral part of a busy department within a thriving school.

The school offers a competitive salary, a 39 hour working week with an early finish on a Friday, membership of the school sports club and daily lunch (during term time) amongst its staff benefits.

For further details, please visit the School website: https://www.cranleigh.org/welcome/work-at-cranleigh/bursarial/ or click ‘Apply’ to be taken to the School website.

The closing date for applications is Monday 25th February 2019.  Candidates are requested to submit a completed Bursarial Application Form no later than 09:00 am on 25th February.

Applications will be considered as they are received.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  The post holder will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
