Trials Assistant

A varied role assisting with plant management and assessments of fruit spray and other trials for the Trials Department.

Company Profile

FAST LLP provides agronomic advice to member fruit growers.
The Trials Department undertakes horticultural research for clients, underpins advancements introduced by FAST and supports agronomic advice.

Overview of role

Practical, hard working and IT savvy person with horticultural experience required to deliver comprehensive hands on field and office support for the Trials Department.  As someone with a good work ethic, attention to detail and initiative, you would assist with trials administration, data collection and entry, undertake practical trials site tasks, assist with spray applications, carry out plant husbandry and plant physiological assessments plus fruit sampling, harvesting and grading.  You would work with other team members and by yourself.

Criteria

• Must be XL & Word competent.
• Horticultural experience essential.
• Full driving license required for role.
• Good English speaker, reader, writer and understanding.
• Plant assessment and trials or research experience desirable (but not essential as training will be given).
• Experienced with motorised knapsack spraying advantageous (but not essential as training will be given).

Conditions
Staff would join a small team and may be required to work alone in remote field locations. Horticultural research sometimes requires late, weekend and short notice or emergency working. Involves working in all weathers outdoors, in cold stores and under polytunnels plus wearing of Personal Protective Equipment.

Brogdale Farm is located on a country road within 30 minutes’ walk from the nearest railway station or 15 minutes from the nearest regular bus route.
