Under Gardener - EC5605

A rare opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic gardener to work under a very knowledgeable and talented Head Gardener on a stunning private estate near Epping in Essex.  This role will involve working directly with the Head Gardener as his only assistant, so will offer the successful candidate a chance to significantly enhance their horticultural knowledge on a daily basis.

The beautiful 22-acre private estate has had the input of respected garden designers and artists in recent years, and the owners plan to continue to develop the property with the assistance of the successful applicant, under the direction of the Head Gardener.  The garden comprises an orchard, hot border, a large lake, rose parterres, shrub and herbaceous borders, climbing wisteria, box and mixed topiary, and a kitchen garden.  The garden also includes, and is surrounded by, a variety of mature exotic and native tree species which provide depth and character throughout the estate.

Applicants must have proven gardening experience, a passion for horticulture and a genuine desire to improve their knowledge from a hands-on and theoretical perspective.  Applicants with good plant identification skills are encouraged to apply.  The successful candidate will be self-motivated, physically fit and capable of working to a high degree of detail.  The work will involve daily operation of garden machinery (strimmers, mowers and hedge cutters etc.) so candidates will be well-versed in this area, whether from a commercial or private estate background. 

A full UK driving licence is essential, and applicants must be physically fit, presentable, friendly and positive in their outlook so as to maintain the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the estate.  The property is a private home to the owner and is not currently open to the public.

SALARY:       £22,000 - £25,000 DOE
