Background

A Vacancy has arisen for a full time gardener at a beautiful country house estate near Oxford. The house is surrounded by several acres of very special gardens and a wider estate.

The estate is seeking fresh energy to enhance the gardens and is looking for new team-member with a collaborative approach and a good understanding of plants, borders and manicured lawns and grounds maintenance.

The Role

The key responsibilities of the role will be towards the overall maintenance of the grounds, working  alongside the Head Gardener and Senior Gardener.

Duties will include:

  • Maintenance of herbaceous borders
  • Pruning and care of walled garden
  • Glass house care and management
  • Vegetable garden maintenance
  • General grounds care including use of strimmers/mowers/hedge cutters
  • A variety of other outdoor estate tasks

Aptitude, Qualifications, Experience and Criteria

If you have high personal standards, possess a team ethic, communicate well and are determined, positive, approachable, hard-working, enthusiastic and have a natural drive to ‘get the job done’, whatever the weather, then this could be the role for you.

Good craft skills and an ability to operate, maintain and care for a range of garden machinery are important attributes for this role.

An interest in ground-based treework will be important and the successful candidate is likely to have chainsawing experience and certification, although training can be provided.     

Applicants should ideally live within a 15-mile radius of north-east Oxford and need to be drivers. Hours will be 8-4pm in winter months and 8-5pm during the summer. 20 days holiday plus bank holidays. Good salary level dependent on skills, experience and other factors
