An exciting role has become available for a skilled and experienced Instructor/Assessor in Horticulture and Landscaping to join our Merrist Wood Study Programmes team within the Guildford College Group.

This is a full-time position based at our Merrist Wood campus on a permanent basis. The salary offered is £23,547 - £27,267 per annum) inclusive of holiday allowance, dependent on qualification and experience.

Main Purpose of the Role 

The post holder will be a member of a dedicated team responsible for the delivery of high quality training and assessment for a range of qualifications, particularly the New Horticulture Operative and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship Standards and professional short courses. You will work closely with the apprentices to support them and train them as necessary to achieve the full apprenticeship.

This will include the initial sign up and associated paperwork, work place visits, carrying out reviews, training in the work place and at college, carrying out assessments, delivering technical certificates and possibly Functional Skills.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Conduct practical instruction, skills development and assessment of learners in accordance with the requirements of the awarding body both within the College environment on a group basis and one to one in the workplace.
  • Deliver underpinning knowledge, skills and behaviours as part of the Apprenticeship standard at College.
  • Assess the underpinning knowledge requirements of the qualification, within the workplace or at College.
  • Monitor/track/expedite learners’ progress and report any concerns to the appropriate programme manager, internal verifier/internal quality assurer (IV/IQA)/Head of Learning and Standards.

Personal Specification

  • Significant, recent relevant occupational experience within the Horticulture and/or Landscape industry
  • Experience of delivering and assessing apprenticeships and work based provision
  • Experience of new apprenticeship standards
  • Experience using and teaching the operation and maintenance of land-based machinery
  • Assessing across a number of land based qualifications

Qualifications

  • Industry related qualification at Level 3 or above
  • Assessor awards: D32, D33 or A1 or TAQA L3 or willingness to achieve within 6 months
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 Spraying qualifications or willingness to achieve within 6 months
  • Maths, English, ICT Level 2 qualification or willingness to achieve
  • Desirable: Industry related qualifications at Level 4 or above
  • Desirable: Verifiers Award: D34 or V1 or TAQA L4
  • Desirable: Emergency First Aid at work
  • Desirable: Ability to teach and assess PA1, PA2 and PA6 Spraying qualifications or willingness to achieve
