Our client is a successful family-owned horticultural business that serves the local community. Made up of garden centres across the South East, they are at the forefront of developing best practice and innovation in the UK garden centre industry, and regularly wins industry awards. Always continuing to drive towards customer excellence with their highly qualified and experienced horticultural staff.
Our client is looking for a driven and reliable gardener to maintain the presentation of two garden centre grounds to a high horticultural standard. This would be across two key locations in Twickenham and Long Ditton.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the general maintenance of the garden centres to a high horticultural and aesthetic standard including; weeding, planting, pruning, grass cutting and watering. They will have good plant knowledge and a good understanding of how to care for, manage and develop identified garden areas, including soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, raking, edging, seed sowing, bed preparation and planting new trees, flowers and various plants. The ability to undertake the basic servicing and repair of garden machinery and ensuring that all garden equipment is correctly maintained and serviced is required.
Other requirements for the role are good communication skills, professional and courteous as he / she may liaise with visitors. The ability to work individually or part of a team and build solid working relationships is important. The successful candidate will work closely with the garden centre managers to provide advice and guidance on matters relating to gardening. The gardener will be expected to prioritise their workload, work towards targets and meet deadlines. A good understanding of Health and Safety rules and legislations is essential and ensuring a safe working environment for everyone working in the garden. Workwear, equipment and personal protective equipment will be provided, and the post-holder is responsible for the maintenance and safety of these items.
The ideal candidate will maintain the garden centre grounds to a high horticultural standard with speed and accuracy and have a vision for maintaining and enhancing as required. They will be physically fit and have a ‘can-do’, positive and flexible approach. He / She should be able to work on their own initiative but be adaptable to the changing environment.
SALARY: Up to £22k depending on experience
