Our client specialises in the production and distribution of quality young plants, finished poinsettias and added value products. Our client operates from one site in Cambridgeshire. The site has 50 acres of land with 15 acres of efficient modern glass and 2 acres of polythene tunnels. The glasshouses have environmental computers to control temperature, ventilation, lighting, irrigation and humidity that provide plants with optimal growing conditions. The growing processes within the facilities are largely manual, relying on the skill and dexterity of years of collective horticultural experience. Their hot water energy is created through 2 x 1 mw biomass boilers within peak back up from 2 large oil fired boilers.


Objectives:

Manage and develop the preventative maintenance systems generally to achieve the greatest efficiencies from Bio Mass boilers. Ensure the routine maintenance of our client's modern nursery facility is undertaken in a timely and breakdown preventative manner, maintaining appropriate records. Become an integral part of the team developing new equipment and systems to ensure that our client remains efficient and forward thinking.


Summary of Function:

Reporting to the Operations Manager - manage and direct all aspects of maintenance within the business. Ensure all growing and production facilities are maintained in good order with regular servicing of all areas to include the screens, vent and irrigations systems. Liaising with other key personnel and with third party suppliers to ensure top quality materials are purchased efficiently and effectively to perform to high expectations. Ensure that the Bio Mass plant, which consists of 2 x 1 mw boilers which are integral to the business, are maintained to the highest standard and kept running day and night. The boilers require regular servicing and it is imperative all schedules are kept up to date. Manage the effectiveness and efficiency of a small maintenance team that includes an apprentice.



Education and Experience:

Practical hands on experience in boiler management is desirable, although full training can be provided. A willingness to learn is imperative. Should have some supervisory experience.
Knowledge and experience in both mechanical and electrical engineering is important due to the varied nature of the role.
Understanding of basic computer operations including Word, Excel and email are desirable but not essential as full training can be given. The company utilises a specialist Priva computer system that you will be required to learn and to comprehend the implications of actions with it.


Additional:

Due to the unique nature of this role and the importance of close management responsibility for the boiler system day and night and as part of the remuneration package, they provide a modern 3 bedroomed house on site rent free. Our client requires the on site Maintenance Engineer to be responsible for securing the property each evening.
