Experienced Gardener – Newby Hall Gardener 

A wonderful opportunity to be part of a team of 6 gardeners caring for the award winning 25 acre Newby Hall Gardens that are open to the public during the spring and summer months. The garden consists of varied features, including our recently renovated Double Herbaceous Borders, Rose Garden, Autumn Garden with Salvia collection and our restored Heritage Orchard. Growing within the garden is a diverse collection of trees, shrubs and perennials, many rare and unusual. We also hold a National Collection of Cornus.

Ideally the candidate should have good plant knowledge and experience of growing and cultivating a wide range of plants

A sound understanding of the principals of pruning, planting and general garden maintenance showing an eye for detail.

Also experience in the operation of a range of garden machinery and duties such as hedge cutting, strimming and pedestrian mowing.

You must have the ability to manage your time and work both independently and as part of a team. On occasions take responsibility for management of garden volunteers.

Enthusiasm and commitment to the garden and the ability to work to a high standard is essential.

Your work will include responsibility for designated garden areas with the opportunity to develop and improve them under the guidance of the owners and Head Gardener.

A willingness to carry out a range of other gardening tasks outside your allocated areas as they arise.

Good communication skills and a friendly disposition when interacting with visitors to the garden.

A full driving licence is essential.

Working hours are 8am–4.30pm Mon-Fri; (weekend watering on a rota). Salary negotiable and commensurate with experience.
