The Borough of Fylde is an attractive location situated on the Lancashire Coast comprising of the coastal towns of Lytham and St. Annes, the market town of Kirkham and a number of attractive villages set within an extensive rural hinterland. The Borough covers some 64 square miles with a population of approximately 76,000.

Whilst relatively small, the Borough has exciting challenges and opportunities including two Enterprise Zones, pressures for new development, significant heritage assets to be safeguarded and major transport infrastructure proposals. The pursuit of high quality urban design outcomes is a high priority for the Council.

We are, therefore, looking for a suitably qualified and experienced person to join the Councils Regeneration and Urban Design Team. The team is part of the broader planning service and comprises of five officers who provide a range of specialist skills to support the broader planning function of the Council. The post holder will be required to deal with Tree Preservation Order matters from the making of orders to dealing with requests for works to such trees. The role also requires the post holder to assist and advise in the consideration of development proposals in the context of planning applications, including commenting and advising and on arboriculture reports. In addition, the post offers the opportunity to use your skills proactively in respect of assisting in the development of public realm schemes and associated Council projects. The post holder will therefore have the opportunity to work with and alongside other members of the team specialising in landscape and urban design issues.

The Council is in the process of developing a comprehensive tree strategy for the Borough and the post holder will have the opportunity to take a proactive role in its development and subsequent implementation of the Strategy, including proactive tree planting projects.

The post offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to join a small but dedicated team and in doing so, bring along their enthusiasm and creativity to the further the planning objectives of the Council in this regard. The post holder will report directly to the Regeneration and Urban Design Manager, playing an important role in delivering an important element of the work of the team. Whilst part of a team, the post holder will be required to manage their time effectively and of necessity much of the workload will require on site assessments and dealing effectively with members of the public to achieve the appropriate outcomes.

With a detailed knowledge of arboriculture matters and with relevant experience, and the appropriate qualifications, you will be required to demonstrate your suitability for the role. You should also be able to demonstrate that you have had the appropriate level of professional experience.  Being well organised, focussed, creative, a team player, and a flexible approach to a varied workload is essential.
