We currently have a unique opportunity for a Landscaping Supervisor to supervise an in-house team of dedicated and experienced Landscaping Operatives who carry out a mixture of Council led and commercial contracts.

The Southampton Landscaping Team undertakes landscaping projects across the city, anything from installing benches and bins to play area construction and maintenance and large planting schemes. We provide a comprehensive service to a range of internal and external customers including Housing Services, Highways, Balfour Beatty, Lidl and various community and private schools. Our in-house team set up means that we have a range of experienced and skilled workers able to undertake a range of tasks giving the highest quality to our customers and stakeholders.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Supervising an experienced team of Local Authority in-house Landscaping Operatives, providing hands on help with a range of practical landscaping projects
  • Ensuring day to day operation resources are in place to effectively undertake work programmes agreed with the Landscaping Team Leader
  • Ensuring all work adheres to statutory Health and Safety Regulations
  • Assisting the Landscaping Team Leader in actively seeking new clients and contracts, working on estimates, quotations and maintenance costs for prospective works
  • Coaching and providing on the job training to staff to increase the overall ability of the Landscaping Team

To be successful in the role you will hold a relevant professional landscaping qualification to a minimum Certificate in Horticulture/Landscaping, NVQ Level 2 or above, or equivalent. In addition you will have relevant experience to undertake the job and be able to demonstrate experience at a management level, achieving sustained improvements to team performance. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to manage and maintain a busy work schedule, following a programme of works and allocating staff and material resources to projects in a timely manner. Communicating timescale, start dates and delays with a range of stakeholders.

Working for Southampton City Council will have its rewards, we are part of the Hampshire pension scheme and the post will come with a minimum of 24 days annual leave dependant on your continued service in Local Government. There are lots of other employee benefits open to SCC employees, from childcare vouchers and discounted travel, to money off at selected restaurants, shops and salons.

You will be based at the Red Lodge Depot, just off Winchester Road which has excellent transport links to all of the surrounding area of Hampshire and beyond. Travel around the city is easy by bus or there are pool bikes that can be used. There is a staff car park and a van will be provided for work use.
