Farm Business Manager | Lothian, Borders & Angus | £DOE

We are working with a very well respected and innovative agricultural merchant who is looking to add to its commercial team in the borders, Lothian and Angus area. This business covers the likes of procurement and marketing of grains, oilseeds and pulses, agrochemicals, seed supply and fertilisers across the North and are on the lookout for a brilliant business manager/farm trader to join this thriving team.

The Role
The foundation of this role will be based around relationship building and account management, as with any buying and marketing role, good relationships with suppliers and clients will put you in the best position to make an absolute success of this position. You will be procuring grain from your local supply base utilising knowledge of spot and forward contracts for the best price possible. In doing so you will be feeding back relevant marketing information to the relevant parts of the business.
You will also be working with various other agricultural supplies in a similar manor, maximising margins where possible. As mentioned previously, all of this is made much easier with constant relationship building and you will naturally develop your area from referrals as you continue to provide a great service to the businesses clients.

The Candidate
To be successful in this role you would have the following characteristics:
  • A great background in arable agriculture and its cropping or working with similar agricultural products on a commercial scale.
  • A strong ability to build and develop relationships and experience dealing directly with farmers.
  • Great computer literacy skills working with MS Office and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • FACTS and BASIS would be desirable, however training will be given to individuals wanting to learn and qualify


This role offers a competitive package and will be flexible on salary to accommodate very experienced traders/business managers where necessary. This role also has a flexible approach to office hours and working from home will be possible.
