York Museums Trust is an independent charitable organisation created to manage York Art Gallery, York Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum & Gardens, and York St Mary’s.
Contract 37 hours per week
Salary: Scale SO1 (SCP 29 - 31) £27,924 - £29,769 per annum
York Museum Gardens are set in the stunning surroundings of the medieval ruins of St Mary’s Abbey and are famous for their vast collection of trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs. We are seeking to recruit a Garden Manager to manage the Gardens, their horticultural and botanical status and the historic landscape and to ensure that the gardens provide a vibrant visitor experience.
You will contribute to the development and expansion of the Gardens and maintain the integrity of the Scheduled Ancient Monument and Registered Historic Landscape, along with managing the Gardening Team and Garden Guides. You will also be responsible for ancillary gardens and green spaces across all Trust sites.
You will have substantial experience in managing a historic or botanic garden and running a successful garden open to the public, along with experience of managing a team of people. You will hold a recognised qualification in horticulture or have equivalent experience. Ideally you will have experience in managing site security and an interest in working with the community and volunteers.
