Head Gardener
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Gardener in a structured yet naturalistic private garden in Somerset.
Significant proportions of the estate are currently being redesigned by a prominent garden designer. You will work alongside the designer in the development of the gardens.
The garden and garden environs are roughly 20 acres. The garden is comprised of several informal walled gardens as well as various garden ‘meadows’, orchards, water, herbaceous plantings, roses and climber, vegetable and fruit gardens.
You will be initially responsible for two/three full time members of staff and future seasonal staff as required.
The ideal candidate should possess: -
Experience of working within a similar environment.
Proven supervisory experience required, minimum of three years.
Excellent demonstrable plant knowledge across a broad range.
An ability to develop and manage timetables and budgets.
An understanding of the requirements of the client/household in respect of seasonal produce, flower arranging, house plants.
Proven ability of glasshouse and polytunnel management.
Knowledge of organic/biodynamic practices would be an advantage.
Aspects of land management, grassland, hedging, ditching and so forth would be an advantage
Experience of vegetable/fruit gardening.
Ability to operate garden machinery.
Full drivers licence and own transportation are required as the property is in a rural location.
This is a long-term position available for a gardener with staying power.
The ability to be flexible, collaborative and embrace new ideas is essential.

Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays
