This is a vacancy for a Head Gardener at a beautiful country house near Tetbury in Gloucestershire. The property consists of an 8-bedroom house, with outbuildings and cottages, set within 100 acres of gardens, grounds and let farmland.
The gardens are very special and extend to 2.5 acres. There is a water garden and a very wide variety of plants, shrubs and trees and there are a further 8 acres of parkland.
The house is being purchased by a British family, who intend to be in residence regularly.
The previous owner’s Head Gardener is retiring (but will be living locally for any help or advice). He was supported by a team of two, both of whom are departing and so the new Head Gardener will have the opportunity to form his or her own team.
The role will require a practical, hands-on approach, with enthusiasm and good plant knowledge.
Duties will encompass those usually associated with a role of this nature, including full responsibility for high standards of garden maintenance and working with the owners on new projects. Care of tools, machinery and equipment will be an important element of the role, together with regular support and liaison with the resident housekeeper couple.
An attractive 4 bedroom lodge cottage will be provided for the better performance of duties. This will initially be under refurbishment and so temporary accommodation will be provided in the form of a very pretty 2 bedroom cottage also in the grounds. The accommodation will be provided free of Council Tax and water. It is not essential that the Head Gardener lives on site in accommodation provided with the role.
