Gardener

We are looking for an additional member to join the skilled and dedicated garden team who manage Trebah, a 26 acre Cornish Valley garden nestled on the banks of the Helford estuary.

The garden is a challenging environment to work in but ultimately very rewarding. Working closely with and, reporting directly to either the Head Gardener or Deputy Head Gardener the successful applicant will assist the team in the day to day maintenance and development of the garden. The role will involve carrying out various horticultural practices such as formative pruning, weeding, mulching, clearance, pest/disease control and plant establishment. An eye for detail is essential in all aspects of the job role as is the commitment to safe working practices. The role will also include working alongside a team of volunteers who will at times require guidance and instruction to help them carry out the more technical aspects of their role. As well as working alongside the garden team the successful applicant will be required to assist visitors with day to day questions about the garden and the collection of plants within.   

With the nature of the garden, machinery is used extensively and the successful candidate should have good level of competence in its use and maintenance. Equipment that is used includes the following: Compact tractors, brushcutters, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, a chipper/shredder, mowers, chainsaws and a pole saw. Although it is not essential to have prior experience of the above it is preferred. Training can be provided where there are gaps. A PA1/PA6 spray certificate is also preferred but again not essential as training can be provided. A full driving license is also required for insurance cover whilst driving compact tractors.

Starting salary is £19250 for a 39 hour week with 21 days holiday.
