About us

East Devon is independently recognised as an outstanding place and so it follows that its council must also strive to be outstanding.  Everything we do is aimed at ensuring that East Devon is a place that people want to live in, work in, visit and enjoy.  Our ambition is to be an outstanding council which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment for East Devon, now and for future generations.

About the role

Working closely with the StreetScene Area Managers and in tandem with our existing Parks and Open Spaces Improvement Officer, you’ll develop and implement plans and policy to continually improve our open spaces for all residents and visitors. Working from the Council’s depots at Manstone in Sidmouth and Camperdown in Exmouth, we want you to explore, develop and roll-out new initiatives to make sure that our open spaces remain award-winning and cost-effective. You’ll identify areas for future improvements and developments, such as where and how we can improve our parks and play areas.  You will also look at ways in which we can reduce the cost of maintenance, maximise income generation, and market our offer more proactively, demonstrating the real benefits of the great outdoors and of being active.

From inspecting parks to writing press releases and working with local community groups, this varied role will help everyone in East Devon, residents and visitors alike, to continue to enjoy our outstanding environment.

About you

Passionate about enabling as many people as possible to get out and enjoy our stunning environment, you will share our love of our beautiful parks and open spaces. You should have a good standard of education to NVQ level 3, plus, ideally, a degree (or equivalent qualification) in Horticulture or a land-based subject.  The ability to call on a working knowledge of horticulture and experience of delivering parks and greenspace development are essential. You must also be used to working with community groups and stakeholders.

A strong project manager, you’ll be confident managing a number of tasks simultaneously – and delivering high-quality work to tight deadlines. You must have a valid driving licence as travel to site throughout the district will be required in the successful delivery of this role.
