Queenwood Golf Club is a world- renowned private members’ golf club operating in the 5- star market. We are located near the town of Ottershaw, Surrey, 5 minutes from J11 of the M25, 25 miles to the west of London in glorious surroundings.
Queenwood opened to members in 2001 and quickly became the most talked-about new club in Europe for many a year. Our members are world-renowned leaders in their fields, be they entrepreneurs, financiers, sports-persons, technology investors or CEO’s.
Our Head Gardener - who is the right person?
For the first time in over 10 years, the position of Head Gardener at Queenwood has opened up (live-out). We seek an approachable team-player inspired to deliver top-class horticultural, arboreal, landscaping and sundry other results. You will be fully hands-on whilst overseeing an Assistant Gardener in maintaining our:
- Clubhouse plantings, beds, lawns
- Water features
- Terraces and outdoor furniture
- A Lime Walk
- Driveway, Turning Circle, Car Park, Hard Landscaping
- Ponds
- Greenhouse
Among other duties.
Reporting directly to the Assistant General Manager, a keen horticultural knowledge and enthusiasm is essential. As part of a wider team of colleagues incorporating golf professionals, greenkeeping, food & beverage, rooms, member services etc, you will strive to deliver exemplary service to our members and their guests.
Qualifications
Proven experience of being a sole or head gardener in a high-end facility (hotel, club, gardens, stately house) and with requisite industry qualifications and licenses.
You should have at least 8-years’ experience and advanced to a minimum level of Sole or Second Gardener and will ideally have an RHS Level 2 Qualification or higher.
Further Requirements
- A 45-hour week including meal breaks. Weekend work and some seasonal variation in start time required
- Adherence to company budgets
- Knowledge or pest and disease control
- Strong knowledge of hard landscaping (York/Indian stone, pointing, paving)
- Efficient, respectful and timely interaction with all Heads of Department as necessary
- Strong H&S knowledge, controls and adherence to company policies
- Ability to guide and develop an Assistant Gardener
- A full, clean driving license or means of transport as we cannot be reached easily via public transport
- The Team
The Head Gardener reports to the Assistant General Manager and must work alongside other Heads of Department
Three other Senior Managers run the club, overseeing golf operations and the course (General Manager, Director of Golf and Course Manager respectively)
The position is a Head of Department role. Fellow HOD’s are:
- Office & Personnel Manager
- Member Services Manager (Reception & Concierge)
- Restaurant & Bar Manager
- Locker Room Manager
- Head Housekeeper
- Maintenance Supervisor
In all, Queenwood employs 70+ full, part time and seasonal employees. Staff retention is high due to several factors, job satisfaction from being associated with an industry- leader not least amongst them.
SeasonalityQueenwood operates year-round with the exception of a 3-week winter break over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Our busiest months are April through October. Winter is a much quieter period from a usage perspective, without any lessening of services offered or, of course, standards, and allows for training, concept development and planning for the year ahead.
Terms
The position offers a highly-competitive London–weighted salary with annual bonus, service fund, private health care, company pension scheme and golfing privileges where relevant. Meals are provided on duty, there is easy access to free parking on-site and uniform is both provided and laundered.
Licenses’ costs are covered by the company and development training can be discussed where a mutual benefit can be discerned.
