Kew is the world’s leading botanic gardens, at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction.

We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved – because our lives depend on them.

We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.

This post will deliver Kew’s mission as part of the Logistics unit in the Landscape and Horticulture Group at Wakehurst, West Sussex, which manages swards, maintains the machinery fleet and provides technical and logistical support to the other units.

This role based in the Logistics unit as part of Wakehurst's Landscape and Horticulture Group, will be maintaining sward and fine turf around the 535 acre estate, using various mowers, strimmers and machinery.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the continued improvement of the fine turf areas, carrying out seasonal tasks as needed.

Previous experience in Fine/Amenity turf would be beneficial.

This role will also undertake routine maintenance of machinery and equipment. The team contribute to the successful delivery of festivals, events and projects.

The logistics team will contribute to the delivery of Wakehurst’s Designed Landscape Plan which is establishing the need for intensified arboriculture and horticulture, more rigorous collection management and research to create new areas in the landscape and this role will contribute to that aspiration.

The post holder may be required to work in other teams or sections at Wakehurst or Kew, depending on the needs of the organisation.

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent experience is essential and a good understanding of carrying out sward management including fine turf. The ability to work in a team and positively contribute to the work of the whole team, and the ability to work on ones' own, manage work load, communicate effectively and problem solve are essential skills in this role.

Salary will be £21,001 per annum. We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a broad range of Learning and Development opportunities, with access to the Civil Service training curriculum, generous annual leave entitlement for new starters, family friendly policies, a choice of competitive pensions and flexible benefits scheme.
