A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, qualified and trustworthy estate gardener to take ownership of a small private estate garden near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire.  The role will suit a qualified and experienced gardener with the ability and willingness to help out with general estate maintenance tasks.

Set in a wider eight acres of paddocks and meadows, the 1.5 acre formal garden comprises of lawns with mixed beds and borders, a small pond, mature trees, three apple trees, and hedges consisting of hornbeam, laurel, yew, and beech.  Surrounding paddocks are to be mowed though the wild meadows are to be left to attract wildlife.

The primary focus of the role is to ensure correct species-specific management of existing plants and to maintain the non-horticultural aspects of the estate to a high standard.  There will be a small amount of kitchen gardening work, with an allocated area to be established and developed by the successful applicant.  Professional contractors will be brought in where necessary, but applicants should have a good working knowledge of handyman/DIY duties.

The ideal candidate will hold an academic horticultural qualification, good physical fitness, a proven ability to manage their own time and demonstrate competency in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery.  Applicants must be able and willing to help out with other estate duties as they arise such as general indoor and outdoor DIY, including some painting on occasion, for example.  This is to ensure year-round employment on the estate, specifically during the winter months.

The primary focus of the role is gardening, so applicants must be gardeners/horticulturists first and foremost.  Applicants will ideally hold spray certificates in addition to a Level 2 or 3 Horticulture qualification, a full driving licence, and a positive ‘can-do’ attitude.

Thank you for the interest you have shown in this vacancy.  Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications that we receive, it is not possible to respond to every one.  Therefore, unless you hear from us within the next 14 days, your application will have been unsuccessful.
