Orchard & Cider Manager | Thornham, Norfolk
We are looking for a dynamic, energetic and hands on Orchard & Cider Manager to assist our client as they expand their already established business.
The orchard you'll be working on is part of a family business that has been in operation for over a century. They have moved away from growing apples for the retailers and now focus on producing premium rare apple, older apple and heritage apple varieties that they sell in their own farm shop or make into cider and juice. The rest of the business consists of two restaurants, a fishmonger, a garden nursery, luxury glamping and more.
As Orchard & Cider Manager you'll be key in driving the cider and juice business forwards. You'll be responsible for two members of staff as they assist you in managing the apple orchard and the cider production unit. This is a very hands on position so you will be involved in all manual aspects of orchard/tree management, rather than managing from afar. Your other responsibilities will include assisting in vegetable production when required and selling cider and juice locally.
The successful applicant will be experienced at making craft cider, with a thorough understanding of the chemistry behind it. You'll know about bottling and bag in box. You must be diligent with paperwork and all aspects of H&S, as well as taking pride in your working environment. Experience of working in an orchard is essential.
This job will suit those who have a year or so experience of working on an orchard and making craft cider. You could be looking for your chance to move into a management position or be looking to move away from growing to retailer specifications. You'll have drive, ambition and a passion for quality produce.
