Head Gardener at Fishbourne Roman Palace – permanent (with the option to include a house)
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Head Gardener with a real understanding of what visitors look for in a historic garden.
This is a unique opportunity to take the lead in caring for, improving and developing the gardens and grounds at Fishbourne Roman Palace. The site includes a formal garden replanted to the original Roman design, a small research garden growing a range of plants from the Roman period, and extensive grounds.
You will have experience of gardening in a visitor-focused setting, as well as experience of working with volunteers. You will have practical skills in gardens and grounds maintenance, and an understanding of the opportunities and constraints of working for a charity. Most importantly, you will be keen to develop the gardens and share your expertise with staff, visitors and volunteers.
About the role
The post is full time and permanent. The pay for the post will be £18,489 per annum. The post-holder will be eligible to join the Society’s pension scheme after the probationary period. In addition the role can offer a good amount of flexibility to the right candidate in terms of working pattern.
This post also includes the option for the successful candidate to live on site in the Custodian’s Residence. The Custodian’s Residence is available for rental at a significantly reduced rate in return for the occupant undertaking key Custodial duties.
