Our Horticulture and Botany team manage all of the zoo’s horticultural features, gardens and greenhouses in our 125 acre site, including 5 National Plant Collections (Nepethenes, Pleurothallidinae orchids and 3 genera of cactus). We aim to create the greatest possible conservation impact for plant as well as animals.

Our Projects team play a large part in the plant theming inside and around our animal enclosures, maintaining lawns, hedges, bedding displays, mature trees and the more natural areas of the zoo estate. Our Nursery team are responsible for the propagation and growth of a wide range of plants, including the National Plant Collections held by the zoo. They also maintain and plant some of the tropical display houses within the zoo. Our Gardens team manage the many ornamental and naturalistic plantings, garden features and tropical houses on our 125 acre site.

We currently have 4 seasonal vacancies within our Horticulture and Botany department, one within our Nursery team, one within our Gardens team and two within our Projects team.

Successful candidates will:

  • Have proven experience within a Horticulture & Botany role.
  • Have an understanding of growing plants, general horticultural tasks, and some experience of using horticultural equipment and machinery.
  • Be hardworking, reliable and work well in a team.

A full driving licence valid in the UK is essential.

Hours of work will be 40 hours per week on a roster of 5 days out of 7.
